My Review
Oh dear I was so looking forward to this book. I am a massive Lora Leigh fan and have read the first 3 books. But This one just went out on a limb to far, and pushed reader suspension of disbelief too far. You need to have read all three books to get even the first few chapters of this one but it just kept throwing new twists and turns that just had me shouting at my Kobo "oh come on" more then once. In the end I gave up as I ended up just not giving a damn and not finishing it. Now I know that Lora Leigh can carry a series beyond 4 books as she has other series the are in double figures but this one ran out of steam or just got to complicated to be precise. I will be hoping for better things for her next book.

K9 BLUE: GROUND ZERO by Matt McCredie

K9 BLUE: GROUND ZERO by Matt McCredie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Blurb
Police dog handler Mike Winters and his furry partner Falcon love a good chase. They’ll do anything to protect the streets of Sydney, whether it’s tracking a murderer through the woods or breaking up a bar brawl. It’s all fun and games until the bad guy gets hurt. And then it’s just fun.

Lately though, it seems that violent incidents are on the rise. When Mike and Falcon’s beloved commander is killed in action, Mike is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, but he has no idea just how deep this malevolent plot runs. A terrorist organisation has devised a plan to attack the city from all sides, and they have taken over a refuelling ship in Sydney Harbour.

Mike and Falcon must use all of their wit and courage to battle the killers, expose police corruption, and, if they’re lucky, save a city from obliteration.

My Review
I wanted to give this book 10 stars as it was beyond good. It not only gripped me from page 1 but it made me smile, laugh and cry. It made you feel as if you were right there with Mike and falcon. It was gritty balls to the wall stuff written in a warts an all way that made it feel real. I now feel like I have had a look at the real life of a K9 officers job. What I loved most about this book is that it felt real, bad stuff happens and the good guys are not often able to stop it happening but when the proverbial poop hits the fan the good guys come through.
This is an opener to a series and this book sets the bar sky high I just hope the author can deliver on the promise this book makes.

The Body Farm (Kay Scarpetta #5) by Patricia Cornwell

The Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Blurb
Kay Scarpetta is back, consulting forensic pathologist for the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, in her grittiest and most compelling case yet. In rural North Carolina, the brutal murder of eleven-year-old Emily Steiner has shaken a small town. But more disturbing are the details of the crime, chillingly reminiscent of the handiwork of a serial killer who has eluded the unit for years. Into this volatile atmosphere comes Scarpetta's ingenious, rebellious niece Lucy, an FBI intern with a promising future in Quantico's computer engineering facility --- until she is accused of a shocking security violation. While coming to terms with Lucy, Kay must conduct a grisly forensic investigation at a clandestine research facility in Tennessee known as The Body Farm. There she will find more answers to Emily Steiner's murder --- and evidence that paints a picture of a crime more horrifying than she imagined ..

MyReview
I was a little worried after the end of book 4 as the feel of the books had become very oppressive with all the politicking going on in Kay's office, but the new FBI consulting job has injected a much needed breathe of fresh air. This book has a totally different feel and I can see a the series going on further. I will say that this is a transitional book so it is not so much about the case they are working as the people Kay has in her life. We learn a lot about all of them and most of them are going through life changing events. I have to say I am looking forward to seeing what happens with everyone next.
